The real problem with the peace talks is that the Europeans are sabotaging them. Trump needs to tell them to stop or else. Same problem with Gaza.

So....media pundents are all seemingly dismayed that President Trump isn't intending to take an active agressive national position in Gaza, Ukraine, and in the western Pacific as well.

Good for DJT!

Russia has been attacking deep into Ukraine for 2 ½ years. Is Ukraine supposed to follow Whiton's advice -- a PR flack! -- about how to defend itself? The issue isn't all Ukraine. The issue is what happens if Russia prevails. PR people are not trained in strategic thinking, only the superficial appearance of things.

The issue is all about the US and UN fucking around with Ukraine, or did MSM tell you otherwise Mr strategic thinker? We stay out and let Russia clean up the mess we created.

Sorry but don't know what you mean about "fucking around." It's not a recognized analytical terms. And I studied national defense strategy from a former secretary of state and am versed in the subject. Sorry if differing views upset you.

This shows the depth of Whiten's "analytical skills": "It would be as if a foreign power armed with Russian military materiel and intelligence destroyed a significant portion of America’s nuclear-capable B-2 and B-52 bombers."

Oh? Maybe more like, its as if the US unilaterally attacked Canada to take it over and after 2 ½ years of its cities being combarded, Canada attacked some of our bombers.

But but but my MSM told me Russia started it… you have no analytical high ground here, step aside you gullible fool

Ukraine just destroyed 1/3 of Russia's heavy bomber fleet. This hardly puts Russia in a position to start WWIII.

Except that aviators "exaggerate". 😉 Perhaps 1/3 of the airframes claimed were destroyed.

Or perhaps they "attacked" 1/3rd of the airfields with underwhelming results.

This guy shouldn’t be writing about war - doubt he’s ever served.

If he had he wouldn’t ask that dumb question about destroying our B-52’s. If we had been using them to launch cruise missiles on civilian targets of course they would be fair game.

Besides Russia contemplating a nuclear response to Ukraine, a big problem is that Ukraine just showed the world that there is a problem with storing aircraft outside - those same B-52’s he mentions are sitting on tarmac in LA, TX, SD, etc. It can easily be imagined the same thing happening here - and almost anywhere in the world.

He is not writing about war, he is writing his opinion about the obvious play here, by the US and the UN, he thinks Ukraine is making the decisions, and he is missing the target. The war is already played out and this is all just fodder for the fools to rile them ⬆️

This is a bad take; it assumes that a tactical victory inherently limited in nature will trigger a massive strategic escalation from a relatively rational actor (Russia).

The U.S. put up with Soviet air crews shooting down their jets in Vietnam without invading the Warsaw Pact. Strategic actors are not easily provoked.

This man must be the dumbest living American. By his logic, the US should not have fought back against the Japanese in WWII because doing so upset the strategic balance. The reality is that when countries are attacked by an enemy intent on their total destruction, as Ukraine was attacked by Russia, they fight back in any way they can.

You know, I was fully prepared to disagree with everything you wrote (and some of the anicllary points I do disagree with) but the chief point at the outset, regarding the attack on Russian nuclear forces, and the inevitable retaliation, is hard to refute. I also have come around to the fact that the war involves no vital US interests. Still, the idea of pulling away, after having invested so much, troubles me -- we have a history of abandoning people, after having armed them, trained them, and fought alongside them, to their fates --
