Biden’s “Voting Rights” Scam Would Make It Easier To Steal Elections
Nicaraguan Public Radio goes nuts
With the Democrats’ agenda faltering amid historic voter disapproval of Joe Biden and the Democrat-run Congress, Biden will be in Georgia today in an effort to keep power by stealing elections.
What Joe Biden, Democrats, and the lying media are calling ”voting rights” legislation is really a complex package to subvert the rights of states—undermining our republican form of government—and ensuring that Americans will consider fewer elections to be fair and settled on election day.
Democrats used the pandemic in 2020 to mail millions of ballots to people who did not request them. Few states even bothered matching signatures on such ballots with voter-registration documents. We’ll never know if fraud was insignificant or massive. Now Democrats want to perpetuate this practice and others that make it easier for activists to vote more than once.
Democrats oppose requiring the showing of picture identification to vote, asserting that the practice is racist—ironic since the Voting Rights Act of 1965 required IDs in historically discriminatory states as a method of ensuring that black votes were not illegally diluted. Some polls show as many as 80 percent of Americans favor requiring an ID to vote.
Democrats also favor letting illegal aliens vote. They can now do so in some local elections in New York and California. Going farther, Democrats want automatic, involuntary registration of people when they get licenses to drive, even though illegal aliens and felons can get licenses.
The “Freedom to Vote Act” scam that Biden is pushing would weaken existing voter ID laws, regulate speech about elections, require states to let felons vote, allow partisan activists to harass and pressure citizens waiting in line to vote, prevent the firing of election officials who reveal themselves to be partisan hacks, facilitate lawsuits against honest officials seeking accurate elections, prevent elected state legislatures from drawing congressional districts as they see fit, require online registration that might be susceptible to foreign hackers, and prevent states from updating registration rolls to remove voters who have died or moved out of state.
The law is so bad that it not only lacks the 60 votes necessary in the Senate to limit debate and move to a vote, it may not even have 50 votes. Non-progressive Democrats Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Joe Manchin of West Virginia seem unwilling to go along with plans by Joe Biden and other Democrats to eliminate the filibuster for this vote, which would fundamentally change the Senate. That the legislation looks like a 48-52 loser should not detract from the appalling willingness of Democrats to subvert election integrity—and the willingness of the lying media to echo Democrat propaganda that this is about helping minorities.
Democrats and progressive activists (but I repeat myself) are also in danger of believing their own mendacious talking points. The leftwing commentariat is full of hysterical nonsense about how democracy is set to be killed off in America, tracking with a supposed authoritarian march globally. On “The Joe Donlon Report” on News Nation, I discussed this growing view in the fever swamps of the Left, including the leading advocate of the theory of a looming rightwing coup. Biden and Democrat Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer have repeatedly conflated alleged infringements of voting rights with the events of January 6, 2021 on Capitol Hill, which I argued in the enclosed video was a riot, not an insurrection. Needless to say, Democrats are not contending that the politicization of top levels of the FBI and military, looking the other way at Antifa-BLM political violence, or the breakdown of the media into a cartoon represent at threat to democracy, which they are.
Tucker on Nicaraguan Public Radio
In case you missed it, watch or read Tucker Carlson’s critique of taxpayer-funded NPR, also known as Nicaraguan Public Radio (HT: JS) for transitioning from merely lefty, let’s-pretend-boring-means-intelligent eccentricity to truly woke, America-hating baloney. Carlson observes, “Everywhere in this country formally respectable organizations seem to have gone off the deep end,” adding:
The revolution always eats itself. In NPR’s case, it’s hard to weep about that. Here’s the deepest irony of all. This is what you will enjoy the most. NPR spends all this time attacking privileged [w]hite people. But privileged [w]hite people are NPR’s core audience. In fact, they are the only people who listen.
Watch or read and enjoy.
Russia Russia Russia
In the latest Nixon Seminar, we discussed the crisis in Ukraine and I questioned whether there are clear and vital U.S. national interests in that former Soviet republic, and also cast doubt on whether Russia will invade. Video below.
Absent war, Putin has already won in a way. It is unlikely Biden and his aides will accept all Russian demands, which include memorializing past western promises not to expand NATO farther east or station U.S. forces in new NATO countries. However, Putin has been masterful in setting the agenda and shaping the debate.
The dim bulbs who run our foreign policy are empire tenders, not empire builders, and they’re not even good at that. Better statesman would realize U.S. interests and capabilities in Russia’s near abroad are limited, but that we could extract things of value by negotiating with Russia over what is basically the status quo (Ukraine and Georgia not in NATO, no big U.S. deployments east of Germany). We could be negotiating for the neutrality of Ukraine based on the postwar Austrian model—an idea advanced by George Beebe of the Center for the National Interest. Expanding the scope of a negotiation can counterintuitively make it more likely to succeed. Why not ask Russia finally to accept the Baker-Shevardnadze line between Russia and Alaska? Why not discuss recognizing Russia’s claim to Crimea in return for Moscow returning to our ally Japan the northern islands it has possessed since the end of World War II? After all, Crimea had been a part of Russia since 1783 and only followed Ukraine out of the Soviet Union because Nikita Khrushchev administratively switched it in 1954 from the Russian republic to the Ukrainian one for reasons that remain unclear. Why not try to entice Russia into a partnership to develop forestry, water, mining, and energy exploitation in its far east in a way that will anger China and therefore spotlight how Beijing covets these resources?
In Case You Missed It
There was apparently a time when New York politics was entertaining in its absurdity rather than just lamentable. While texting with three friends about the late, great Roy Cohn, it occurred to me that one of his many illustrious clients was Studio 54 in New York. Upon investigating, I came across this gem of a Village Voice article from 1979 about Cohn throwing himself a birthday party at Studio 54 that was one of the hottest tickets in town, separated into an A list and a B list. Naturally the event included “32-year-old developer of the Commodore Hotel and the convention center Donald Trump.” Read and enjoy.
